Evaluation of previous students home pages and CD covers

Maccabees
-Overall the home page looks good with the bright colours but it lacks information about the band.
-It gives us a clear image of each of the band members.
-Social network links.
-Targeted to young male audience (teenagers) due to the colourful lego bricks and the hand written style of writing.
-They have been promoted as a fun 'lad band', you can see this from the way the band members are dressed and by the lego bricks in the background.

- The digipak is very well made as it is very creative with having the tracks on the colouring pens instead of just a straight forward list.
- We would be able to identify the CD from looking at the spine as it shows the album title and band name.
- All of the vibrant colours make it stand out and make it more interesting to look at.
- Again the band are portrayed as a 'lad band'
however the image on the insert on the left is more in the direction of a boy band and that is not what the Maccabees are as they are more of an indie band.
- The continuity with the lego on the home page and in the digipak is good.

Blur
-I like the overall theme of 'britishness' that runs throughout the digipak and homepage with the use of the union jack flag.
- It is clear that they have thought about their ideas thoroughly as the back and front cover especially are very well done. I think that using the warning section of a cigarette packet to display the track list on is a good original idea.

- They have let themselves down by not putting anything on the spine therefore the CD would be unidentifiable if it were on a shelf.
- I feel as though the photo of the band portrays them in the wrong way as they look slightly like a boy band.

- I really like the homepage as it has similar images to what they have used in the digipak.
- I has a lot of information which is good, however it can seem a little too busy and cluttered but overall I think that it is a very well thought out home page.

Recce Sheet: House, Trowell

Location Photographs

We chose to use Emily's living room as is big enough to film in but small enough to make it seem as though there is a fair amount of people at the house party.

Digipak cover research

Here are digipaks of 5 different albums within the genre of pop, it was very difficult to find the covers and very hard to find the inserts for the albums.

Carly Rae Jepsen - KISS
- The colour is very suitable to the genre as it gives off the typical girly pop vibes that you would expect from the artist.
-The colourful combination of clothing is a very generic convention of pop artists as they like to be portrayed as fun and bubbly.
- By using the artist signature as her name on the cover, it gives a personal touch to the album that may appeal more to her target audience.
- The design is very simplistic yet effective as it still emits the idea of being fun and lively, this is reflected in her music as it is simple yet catchy and energetic.

Taylor Swift - Red
- The lips are the focal point of Taylor on this album cover as they are done in bright red to go with the name of the album, make-up is generally very important to a Pop artists image and it especially is to Taylor Swift as she wears a lot of red lipstick on a day to day basis.
-The basic block writing fits well with Taylor's image as she isn't as eccentric as other Pop artists such as Katy Perry.
-The softness of the colours on the cover suggests that Taylor is quite a laid-back artist that is girly but not seen as a 'Pop Princess'.

Demi Lavato - Here We Go Again
- Demi's girly image really shines through on this cover due to the pink font that her name is in.
- With her looking into the camera, it makes it a fairly strong photo.
- The album title is less noticeable as it is more important to the artist that her audience notice it's her album first before knowing the title.

 Taylor Swift - Fearless
- The simple, neutral colours work very well with the laid-back songs on the album and fit with Taylor's 'country girl' image.
- Again we have a full front cover with a portrait of the artist and a fairly minimalistic back cover so that the outer is not too busy.
 Miley Cyrus - Breakout
-As Miley is originally a Disney Channel star, she still appeals to her T.V show audience from 'Hannah Montanna' therefore it needed to look young. The gold stars work very well in order to appeal to her young female fan base.
-She is shown looking as though she is having fun as his is what she wants her fans to feel like when they listen to her music.

-All of these digipaks really focus on the artists as they all contain photos of them so we know we will have to do photo shoot with our own Carly Rae Jepsen in order to follow the right conventions of a Pop album digipak.

PITCH

Pitch Comments

step outline wasn't very clear, but once the narrative is organised it has a good potential! Definitely think you can pull it off. Just make sure that you have actors who are fully committed as to do a party scene you will need a lot of actors.

Excellent ideas, very well thought out and planned. Only problem would be actors and getting them all to different locations. Providing this is successful though, you should be able to pull off a good video!

Good potential idea however may have problem with location and quantity actors If you can pull it off it will look good more solid ideas would make it more convincing

love the song and the beat to it, the initial idea is promising, however ideas and locations need more thought and planning. Overall, it is a good idea and cant wait to see it xoxoxo

-From the feedback that we got from our classmates and teacher, we are planning to use fairly small rooms for party scenes so it looks as though there are more people there than there really is.
-To get over the barrier of getting all of the actors to all the different locations, we plan to try and film over one weekend so all the actors are able to attend every location that they are needed for.
-To add more fun to the party scenes we are going to add props such as a chocolate fountain for some of the actors to focus on as in the video for 'Good Time' they have their own slush puppy machine.

Video Analysis: Taylor Swift

After analysing the Taylor Swift video, it is clear that we need to include many aspects of fun into our Carly video. Lots of singing to the camera and dancing around will be required in the company of the protagonists friends. More than one location is key to keep the audience interested and so they don't get bored. Using brightly coloured clothing and/or fancy dress costumes may help to captivate the audience more as there is more of a variety of things to look at.

Example of parody

-Here is an example of an artist imitating and making fun of certain celebrities and TV shows etc to create comedy.

-We plan to imitate and exaggerate the part of the 'Call Me Maybe' video where Carly Rae Jepsen is cleaning her car, however in our video for 'Turn Me Up' it will be the boy that likes Carly that is cleaning the car. We want to add this to our music video to add some light-hearted comedy.

Image & Target Audience - Carly Rae Jespen

Carly Rae Jespen's target audience would be teenage girls, probably the low end of teenagers and some pre teens. In the video she has a crush on the next door neighbour like lots of young girls would, and she tries to get the confidence to talk to him. She also dreams of him and her being together which again most teenage girls would do.

In this video I'd say she is targeting teenage girls and again they would be the younger teens. This is because she is just with her friends having a laugh and dancing. They all go to a cabin-like place and party but they don't drink any alcohol but drink like slush puppies instead which makes me think she isn't targeting older teenagers

From watching the two videos is say Carly Rae Jepsen is targeting young teenage girls for her music as she is innocent in them and acts like a teenage girl

Image & Target Audience

BLUR
British Video

U.S. Video

-Here are two different music videos from Blur, the reasoning behind having two different videos for the same song is to attract different audiences.
-The first video is very british because of the entire idea of a Sunday dinner and the classic dessert, a trifle. U.S fans would not be able to relate to this due to different cultures.
-The second video is more generic so U.S fans are able to relate much more easily as there isn't a different culture for them to try and understand.

KAISER CHIEFS

The Kaiser Chiefs are portraying british people as working class individuals that spend their time chip shops and cafes. The representation of working class people is shown through the skeleton sex seen which is not very sophisticated because they have no respect for their parents that are still in the house whilst they are having sex.

This music video is targeted at a working class audience because of the council estate and relating it to gang culture theme within the music video. Also the band playing their own instruments in a run down pub makes them seem more working class.

Through looking at these videos it is clear that artists follow certain rules to what content is and isn't suitable to their target audience.

Step outline

The step outline is the basic plan for a music video which describes briefly what goes on in each section of the song. Here is ours for 'Turn Me Up'- Carly Rae Jepsen
